Geneva Motorshow 2019: Supercars

The other thing that Geneva is famous for is of course, the Supercars. This is the place where the world’s finest Supercar manufacturers come to sell the world a dream, cars so expensive that only the mega rich need apply. Still, that doesn’t mean that us mere mortals can’t stare at them and drool…

Here we’ve collated a list of what we think to be the most extravagant, advanced and most expensive cars from the Geneva Motorshow. They might not be the most significant cars on show this year in terms of showing the way forward for automobiles, but for many of us, they represent the absolute pinnacle of automotive engineering right now. And as an added bonus, they’re really great to look at, enjoy:

Bugatti La Voiture Noire:

Bugatti has always been at the very top of the motoring food chain. From the gorgeous pre-war cars like the Type 35, through to the groundbreaking 252 mph Veyron and latest Chiron, Bugatti has always created the fastest, insane and most expensive automobiles the world has ever seen. But with the new La Voiture Noire, Bugatti has created an object so exclusive and expensive, that it makes the $3 million Chiron look like the economy model…

The La Voiture Noire, French for “the black car”, is rumoured to have been commissioned by non other than ex VW-AUDI boss Dr Ferdinand Piech, grandson of Ferdinand Porsche. Just as well, as he is one of the few people who will be able to afford such a car at a price of, wait for it, $18,9 million…

Only one will be built as a modern representation of the classic Bugatti Type 57 SC Atlantic. And while the price is plainly stupid, the classic Type 57s that inspired it are worth much more. So for the billionaire car collectors amongst you it might even be considered a bargain…

Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Roadster:

Another one from the VW/AUDI group dream stable comes the venerable Lamborghini Aventador. While no longer a spring chicken, in new SVJ Roadster form the Aventador proves that it can still out crazy even the craziest of hypercars. It still looks sensational, every teenage boys wet dream of a car, and now you can hear that highly tuned V12 sing even more clearly…

And what an engine it is. With arguably the last iteration of the naturally aspirated Lamborghini V12, in this state producing an astonishing 770 hp, the car can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.8 seconds, with maximum speed quoted at 350 km/h. Anyone want to try if it’ll do that with the roof down?

Aston Martin Valkyrie:

In the modern world of hybrids, turbocharging and electric vehicles, having a manufacturer introduce a new car with a brand new 6.5l V12 engine revving to over 11000 rpm seems like somewhat of an anomaly. Yet that is exactly what Aston Martin intends on doing with it’s new Valkyrie hypercar. Developed in collaboration with Red Bull F1 and it’s star designer, Adrian Newey, the Vlakyrie promises to have F1 like levels of performance and engineering all clothed in a typically beautiful and dramatic Aston Martin body. With power levels exceeding 1000bhp and a weight of just over 1000kg, Aston Martin claims that this will be the fastest car in the world around a racetrack, any racetrack.
